Ronnie Liang is considered one of the most talented and handsome singers in the Philippines today.
Born January 31, 1985, Ronnie is the youngest of the seven children of a low-income family. Yet, despite this, he always dreamed of helping his family alleviate themselves from the plight of poverty.
A diligent working student, he supported himself through college by working in a fastfood outlet and a video shop while studying at Holy Angels University in his hometown of Angeles. All his sacrifices and hard work paid off as he graduated with a BS Education degree.
He also worked part-time as a ramp model, until his manager discovered he can sing. This became a turning point in Ronnie’s career as his manager encouraged him to join singing contests. Among them was Pinoy Pop Superstar.
Ronnie first rose to notoriety as the grand contender that was disqualified from the singing competition because he had a manager. He could have been the eventual champion of the season, but out of loyalty to his manager, he opted to leave the competition.
But when one door closes, a window opens. And the window came in the form of Pinoy Dream Academy. Ronnie made it past the initial screening and was fortunate enough to be one of the 20 scholars to study inside the Academy. At 6ft. tall, he was the Academy’s tallest contestant. Given his chiseled physique and definite mass appeal, he captured the hearts of viewers both here and abroad. PDA’s resident hearthrob certainly did not disappoint. He churned outstanding performance after performance during the Saturday Gala Nights. When he was nominated for expulsion, his loyal supporters definitely delivered for him– not only was he saved from expulsion, but oftentimes becoming the scholar with the highest voting percentage. This earned him the monicker People’s Favorite. With this loyal fanbase and support group, Ronnie made it to the Honor’s List of Six.
During PDA’s Grand Dream Night, Ronnie owned the night by giving the best performance among the Top 3 Finalists with hie rendition of Basil Valdez’ “Nais Ko.” It was also that same night that he was awarded the competition’s Second Runner Up.
Now that the competition is over, Ronnie busies himself with gigs and guestings with PDA’s Top 6. However, priority goes into the recording of his album under Universal Records, which is due to be out soon. He also wishes to venture into acting but that would have to wait as his priority for this year is singing. Prior to his PPS and PDA stint, Ronnie has appeared in the movie Ako Legal Wife as John Prats’ love interest.
Despite his success, Ronnie keeps his feet on the ground. He remains thankful to the people who support him– his family, most especially his mother, his manager, George Roca, and his loyal supporters, namely the Ronnians, Superonics and macaRONNIEs.
